ANNUAL ACTIVITIES REPORT FOR THE 2003-2004 YEAR

Bremerton (Central) LIONS Club    MD 19 – C4

 A. COMMUNITY SERVICE ACTIVITIES:

1.      Newspaper, magazines, aluminum cans and pull rings are collected on an ongoing basis.

2.      20 Lions helped maintain Lions Park. $733.00 was donated for materials.

3.      42 Lions helped changing the letters on the Admiral Theater marquee.

4.      $1200 was given to Bremerton Food Bank to buy food.

5.      During December, 2003, 41 seniors and their guests from local senior homes enjoyed a lunch provide by the Club. After lunch “Santa” paid a visit to all the seniors there and then Santa and four Lions went to senior homes whose seniors could not get to the luncheon, giving them candy and fruit.

6.      In December, 12 Lions worked ringing the “Bells” for the Salvation Army raising $1018.00.

7.      Contributed $100 to Harrison Hospital Foundation for their annual Festival of Trees program which benefits the hospital.

8.      2 Lions spent six hours with Bremerton High School students applying for youth scholarship grants, receiving $2000 in grant funds.

9.      20 Lions spent over 1000 hours working on the Foundation’s Seafood/Auction dinner; Working with the Foundation, this project raises much of the money that becomes available for Lion’s donations.

 B. YOUTH ACTIVITIES

1.      Sponsored the Bremerton High School LEO Club with sixteen members.

2.      Donated $1000 to Camp LEO, Youth Diabetic Camp.

3.      Donated $100 to the Corey’s Day on the Farm, an annual event for handicapped youths.

4.      Donated $300 for transportation for a youth to go to the Imagi Nation International Competition

5.      Donated $6000 for scholarships

6.      Donated $450 to the Evergreen Children’s Theater for interpreter services.

7.      Contributed $200 to the Special Olympics Program.

8.      Donated $400 to the WA Business Week program for youths.

9.      Donated $500 to the YMCA for a Select Swim Program for disabled children.

10.  Donated $143 to the Spinoza Bear Fund for a Spinoza Bear for a youth in the local area.

 C. SIGHT CONSERVATION

1.      Paid for eye exams and glasses, in the amount of $1349.

2.      During White Cane Days collected and forwarded $3700.00 to the NW Lions Foundation for Sight and Hearing. This was made possible with the generous help of 33 Lions who spent 90 hours collecting the money.

3.      11 Lions spent 25 hours working on packing and shipping White Cane Days supplies.

4.      Provided couriers for transporting corneal tissues from and to the NW Lions Eye Bank, 8 Lions spent over 30 hours on this project.

5.      Collected used eyeglasses, 20 Lions spent 56 hours on this project.

6.      Donated $200 to the eyeglass Recycling Center.

7.      Donated $100 to the Leader Dog program.

 D. YOUTH EXCHANGE

1.      Entertained three visiting Japanese students at our club meeting, the club picnic, a Welcome and Farewell party and a boat trip to Blake Island. The student’s visit is in connection with the Bremerton-Kure Japan Sister City Program. 8 Lions spent 40 hours on this project.

2.      Paid airfare in the amount of $1150, for three Bremerton students going to Kure, Japan on an exchange program

 E. HEARING

1.      Provided $365 for hearing exams and hearing aids. One Lion spent over 16 hours on this project.

2.      Golden Ear Days; collected and forwarded $1200 to the NW Lions Foundation for Sight and Hearing.

3.      Collection of hearing aids is an ongoing club project. Four Lions spent eight hours on the project.

 F. FUND RAISING

1.      $953 was raised at the club’s weekly meetings for the Food Bank.

2.      44th Annual Pancake Breakfast raised $2105. Twenty Lions spent over 48 Lion-hours on this project.

3.      16th Annual Seafood Dinner and Auction raised over $18,000 to be used in response to community requests.

4.      Newspaper and aluminum recycling raised $1940.

5.      Mint sales, $200. Four Lions and 16 hours were spent on this project.

6.      The sale of blackberry “Slugs” at the annual Blackberry Festival raised over $700. Thirty Lions worked over 40 hours on this project.

 G. SOCIAL EVENTS

1.      Annual picnic for all club members, families and guests was held in July.

2.      The Installation Dinner was attended by 52 Lions and guests. VDG-E Ida Malone was the installing officer.

3.      The Club hosted the annual Valentines luncheon during which twelve spouses and sweethearts were given a beautiful corsage.

4.      Hosted the Zone C-4 Social.

 H. INTERNATIONAL, MD 19, DISTRICT 19-C and ZONE ACTIVITIES

1.      Donated $1000 to LCIF for a Melvin Jones Fellowship for Lion Ida Malone, VDG-E.

2.      Donated $200 to MD-19 “CARE” project.

3.      MD-19 Fall Form, attended by 2 Officers, 2 Lions and 1 spouse.

4.      MD19-C conference, attended by seven Bremerton Lions.

5.      MD_19 Annual Convention was attended by 12 Club members and 7 spouses.

6.      The President and Secretary attended or were represented at all Zone C-4 meetings.

7.      54 members traveled 862 miles visiting 20 clubs.

8.      Three Bremerton Lion members attended the District C Banner Passing.
